20-21 School Year

Daily Health Screenings

  • Daily health screenings, including temperature checks, must be completed at home by families using this link https://healthscreening.schools.nyc/. You will be asked to show your screen indicating that your child passed the screening to enter (otherwise we will conduct a screening).
  • We will send home a thermometer for every child in their backpack on Day 1. This will be what you can use at home for temperature checks after Day 1.
  • Every morning, prior to entering the school, specific staff will perform random samplings of temperatures for students using non-touch thermometers and a health screening for anyone who can not show they have completed one at home.

Overall Health & Safety Protocols

Testing and tracing are part of several strict health protocols designed to keep our school community healthy. Here are the key things that you and your family should know about NYC Department of Education (DOE) health and safety practices, policies, and protocols as we reopen our school building in September:

  • At all times, students and staff are expected to wear face coverings protecting their nose and mouth while in the school building or on their way to/from school. Exceptions will be made for children who can’t wear a face covering for medical reasons, as needed for younger children who aren’t developmentally able to wear a face covering, and students outside the school building (for example for recess) but still physically distant. Face coverings must be worn at all times except while eating or drinking.
  • Students and staff are expected to maintain six feet of physical distancing throughout the school day, anywhere on school grounds and to and from school.
  • The building will be cleaned throughout the day and disinfected each night, with special attention to high-touch areas.
  • Face coverings, hand sanitizer, and cleaning supplies will be readily available.
  • Our school has a school-based team ready to respond in the event that there is a health concern.
  • There is a designated isolation room for use in the event that a student becomes ill during the school day.
  • If a student or teacher is feeling sick, they are required to stay home and, if their symptoms are consistent with COVID-19, they are asked to get tested. If a student begins experiencing symptoms in school, they will be isolated and monitored by a dedicated staff member until they are picked up by their family. Staff members who become symptomatic at school are asked to immediately leave the building.

Arriving at School on the Wrong Day

If a student arrives at school on a day when they are not scheduled, we will notify you that your child needs to be picked up.

Meals

Breakfast and lunch will be eaten in classrooms. Students will be directed not to share food or beverages. •

  • Cold food meals will be available for breakfast and lunch each day.
  • Children may bring lunch from home if preferred.
  • Students who are not receiving in person instruction on-site can pick up a lunch from school at designated times of day.
  • After eating, staff/students will wipe down the area where they ate their meal with disinfectant wipes.
  • Students will be expected to clean their hands before and after meals/snacks

Visitors

Visitors entering the building beyond the Lobby will occur only rarely this year. Most parent meetings will be held by phone or by Zoom.

  • If a parent comes to pick up their child at any time other than regular dismissal, a staff member will bring their child to the Lobby.
  • When it is essential to hold an in-person meeting, all visitors are required to follow the visitor control protocols, including undergoing a temperature check, completing a health screening form, complying with physical distancing requirements and wearing a face covering. Visitors with appointments must sign in with the school safety agents upon arrival with a photo ID.
